PSP Screen Replacement in India: Cost, Process & What to Expect

2026.07 · PSP · 5 MIN READ · FROM THE RETROBYTES BENCH

A cracked or dead screen is, by a wide margin, the most common reason PSPs land on our bench. The good news: it's also one of the most satisfying repairs, because the transformation is instant. Here's everything you should know before getting yours fixed — whether you do it with us or anyone else.

What it costs

At RetroBytes, a PSP screen replacement is ₹1,999 including labour, for the PSP 1000, 2000, 3000 and E1004 Street. That covers an OEM-grade LCD panel, professional fitting on an ESD-safe bench, a dead-pixel and backlight test, and our standard 60-day warranty on the part and the work.

You'll see cheaper quotes around — sometimes ₹1,200–1,500 with panel included. The difference is almost always the panel grade. Low-grade clone LCDs commonly ship with washed-out colours, visible backlight bleed, poor viewing angles, or ribbon connectors that fail within months. On a device you plan to keep for years, the panel is not the place to save ₹500.

QUICK CHECK: If a repair quote doesn't mention the panel grade, a post-fit dead-pixel test, or any warranty, ask. A shop confident in its parts will happily answer all three.

How the repair is actually done

A proper PSP screen swap isn't just "open, unplug, replug." The faceplate comes off, the old LCD is released from its bracket, and the ribbon cables — which are fragile and model-specific — are carefully disconnected. The new panel is seated, ribbons secured, and before anything is closed up, the unit is powered on for a full-screen colour test: pure white, pure black, and RGB fields to catch dead or stuck pixels. Only after that does reassembly and a final QC pass happen.

The whole job takes under an hour of bench time, but the difference between careful and careless handling of those ribbon cables is the difference between a 10-year fix and a screen that flickers in three weeks.

Model differences that matter

PSP 1000, 2000 and 3000 screens are not interchangeable — the 2000/3000 use different connectors and the 3000's panel has a wider colour gamut and an anti-glare treatment. The E1004 Street uses its own panel again. Always confirm the exact model (it's printed on the back label) before ordering a part or approving a repair.

Is it worth repairing at all?

Almost always. A working PSP with a fresh screen holds its value well in the retro market, and if the rest of the console is healthy, ₹1,999 buys you years of use. If your PSP also has a tired battery or worn buttons, a bundled job like our Full Overhaul (₹5,599) works out cheaper than fixing things one by one.
